Typed, cited cooling and fluid-sizing calculations for AI datacenters.
Compute-only functions for liquid and air cooling design: heat-load aggregation, cooling-capacity margin, pump-curve and flow-rate-curve evaluation, pipe velocity and inlet-air envelope checks. Each returns a typed value with provenance. They never judge whether a result is acceptable, and equipment data is passed in by the caller.
Interactive demos
- Cooling capacity margin →Racks × kW per rack against cooling units you enter; a shortfall comes back as a negative margin, not an error.Auto ▶
- Pipe velocity regimes →Flow and diameter against the cited small-pipe, large-pipe and absolute limits; the 2 to 3 inch gap shows no cited limit, never a pass.Auto ▶
Harnesses in action
Scripted chat-and-viewer examples where this domain's harness is one of the tools. Illustrative, not live sessions.
What it can do
aggregate_rack_heat_loadAggregates rack heat load into a typed total.
check_cooling_capacity_marginDemand kW against summed cooling-unit capacity; negative margins are returned, not raised.
evaluate_quadratic_pq_curveEvaluates a quadratic pump pressure-flow curve and flags out-of-range queries.
interpolate_flow_rate_curveInterpolates a flow-rate curve and flags out-of-range queries.
evaluate_pipe_velocity_for_flow_ratePipe velocity from flow and diameter, checked against cited small- and large-pipe limits.
check_inlet_air_temperature_envelopeInlet air temperature against ASHRAE envelope classes.
A worked case
Input
1,000 kW demand against one liquid cooling unit rated at 1,368 kW.
Result
Margin of +368 kW (36.8%). At 2,000 kW demand the margin comes back as −632 kW rather than raising an error.
Where this stands
Draft; no mechanical or thermal engineer has reviewed it yet. An audit of the input data caught real discrepancies, and the functions use whatever value a caller passes without correcting it. Pipe-velocity limits are cited to ASHRAE through secondary sources only.
Open questions
- Pump-curve against system-curve intersection is not built.
- A full pressure-drop-versus-diameter formula, beyond the velocity check, is open.
- Capacity margin is scalar-only, so it cannot confirm a unit delivers nameplate capacity at actual flow and temperature.
