Research — Illustrative (draft, unvalidated)
Cooling capacity margin
Choose how many racks and how much heat each puts out, then how many cooling units you have and the capacity of each. The margin is total supply minus total heat load, in kW and as a percent of load. If load exceeds supply the margin simply comes back negative: the function returns it and leaves the judgment to the engineer.
Rack-row heat vs cooling supply, one kW scale (schematic; heat past the supply bar is the shortfall)

How the check read it
Client-side port:the logic and table in this page are a TypeScript port of the harness function, checked against values exported from the Python tests. Not a live API call. Domain maturity, quoted from the research page: “Draft; no mechanical or thermal engineer has reviewed it yet. An audit of the input data caught real discrepancies, and the functions use whatever value a caller passes without correcting it. Pipe-velocity limits are cited to ASHRAE through secondary sources only.” Equipment capacities on this page are user-entered; no manufacturer or catalog capacity is built in. The one preset number, 1,368 kW per unit, is the example value from the research page's worked case, not catalog data. Red, amber and green here are a display aid (amber under 10 % headroom), not a verdict from the harness.Real functions this maps to:
aggregate_rack_heat_load, check_cooling_capacity_margin.Not modeled: flow-dependent capacity (the check compares scalar nameplate numbers only, so it cannot show whether a unit delivers its rating at the real flow and temperature), redundancy such as N+1, derating for supply-water temperature, pump curves, and a pass or fail judgment of the margin. Rack heat is one uniform kW figure per rack. The drawing is a schematic on a shared kW scale, not a plant layout.See also:Cooling margin, auto sweep · Pipe velocity regimes
